Switzerland writes history again through its prowess in transportation engineering

The aim of the New Railway Link through the Alps (NRLA) is to provide a quick, efficient railway connection through Switzerland. The Gotthard Base Tunnel and the Ceneri Base Tunnel are the centrepieces of the construction project. The new railway link between Erstfeld and Biasca encounters very few inclines and follows several wide curves as it stretches through the Alps. The route is just 550 metres above sea level at its highest point – the same as Bern. Switzerland is once again writing history with the construction of the flat transalpine rail link. The Base Tunnel opened in June 2016 after approximately 17 years of construction.
